History

Founded in 1958, Hengst remains an independent family company managed by its third generation with all associated strengths - short decision channels, rapid responses and customer orientation are without doubt self evident. Many things have changed over the past half century but one thing remains unchanged: The satisfaction of our customers is our focus.

1958

The engineer Walter Hengst formated the company Ing. Walter Hengst KG in Münster, Germany.

1959

The Hengst racing team was established.

1961

Production of the first flow/ bypass oil filter for Mercedes Benz

1962

First trade show booth at the International Automobile Exhibition (IAA)

1962

Walter Hengst and Frank Donaldson joint venture the Hengst-Dondalson Inc. Based in Münster, Germany.

1968

Series production and delivery to Porsche of flow/ bypass filters

1974

Production of the first fuel filter for Canadian ferries

1977

Mr. Günter Röttgering, the  son-in-law of Mr. Walter Hengst, joins the company, which becomes: Ing. Walter Hengst GmbH & Co. KG.

1977

Foundation for the expansion of the main building in Münster, Germany

1978

Mr. Walter Hengst dies at the age of 86.

1979

The first Hengst foreign subsidiaries are founded.
A production plant for spin-on filters is established in Vöcklabruck, Austria.

1980

Start of series production of the first intake muffler completely made out of plastic for Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles

1987

Completion and grand opening ceremony of plant #2 in Münster, Germany

1988

Production of the first easy-to-service-cup oil filter with an automatic service drain system and plastic screw cap

1990

Take over from the trust agency of a stateowned filter and carburetor plant in Berlin, renamed: Hengst Filterwerke Berlin GmbH & Co. KG

1992

Foundation of the nationawide charity organization "Herzenswünsche e.V." by Ms. Wera Röttgering which fulfills heart's desires of seriously ill children and youth

1993

World News: Launch of the environmentally friendly ENERGETIC® filter system - the first metal-free filter insert - is being presented to the market

1995

Hengst receives the Innovation-Prize from the Münsterland region for Science & Economics for the development of the enviromentally friendly  ENERGETIC® oil filter insert.

1995

Installation of a company-owned injection molding department in Münster, Germany

1995

First cartridge type oil filter system

1996

First Fluidmanagement-Modul for the Mercedes-Benz engines is being produced.

1996

Multifunktional oil moduls with integrated engine mount are being produced.

1997

Highly efficient oil mist separator systems (cyclones for petrol and diesel engines) with patented pressure limiter valve are introduced to the market.

1998

The biggest fire after World War II in the city of Münster, Germany destroys one-third of the Hengst filter plants.

1999

The Hengst-Wetzel Ltda. is founded - a joint Venture in Joinville, Brazil.



2000

The Nordwalde, Germany NW-5 location is established: An in-house aluminum die cast foundry and the expansion of the ENERGETIC®  production.

2000

Hengst takes over the Luber-finer GmbH with the trademarks Champ and Luber-finer.

2001

Opening of the logistics center in Nordwalde, Germany

2002

Mr. Jens Röttgering, with a diploma in business management, joins the Hengst company in the 3rd generation.

2002

Development of an ENERGETIC®-System for direct assembly

2003

Establishment of an engineering office in Detroit, MI (USA)

2003

Establishment of an engineering office in São Paulo, Brazil

2003

Development of a fuel-service-center (Water Separation / electr. heater)

2004

Take over of all shares from the Brazilian partner from the joint venture Hengst-Wetzel Ltda. and renaming to Hengst Indústria de Filtros Ltda.

Discontinuation of brands Luber-finer and Champ

2004

Development of a cylinder head cover with integrated oil mist separation and pressure regulation

2005

Establishment of the subsidiary Hengst Filter Systems (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. in Kunshan, China

Establishment of the subsidiary Hengst of North America, Inc. in Camden, SC (USA)

Development of Multifunctional modules with integrated coolant pump

2006

Hengst Indústria de Filtros Ltda. moves into a new company building in Joinville.

2006

Hengst receives the logistic supplier award from DaimlerChrysler Global Service & Parts.

2006

Hengst receives the "Trucknology® Supplier of the Year" award from MAN.

2007

Opening of an additional production building in Nordwalde, Germany

2008

Development of the High Speed Centrifuge Blue.jet for all classes

2008

Opening of Hengst own day care center "Hengst-Children Land"


2008

Start-up production of the multi-functional module for the Daimler Truck Group HDEP engine

2009

Completion of an additional plant in Münster, Germany and development of the energetic competence center

2009

Opening of a new company building of Hengst Filter systems (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. In Kunshan

2010

First price award at the "International aluminium pressure die-casting" competition 2010 in the category "Multifunctional near-net shape castings"


2010

Hengst wins the "Grand Innovation Award" of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE).


2010

Premiere of the Blue-Engine-Care-Systems at the Bauma 2010

2011

Hengst is distinguished as the "Supplier of the Year 2010" by Shanghai General Motors (SGM).

2011

Hengst receives the Bronze Award 2010 from Shanghai Volkswagen (SVW).

2011

Hengst starts their operation in the new building in Nordwalde.

2011

Disc separator with electric engine

2012

Hengst received special recognition in the International Aluminium Pressure Die Casting Competition 2012.

 

2012

The newest Generation of the Blue Engine Care System Blue.tron (Disc separator with electric engine) is presented at the IAA.

2012

Start of serial production of the new oil filter system for the MQB drive system (Modular Transverse Matrix) from Volkswagen

2012

Start-up production of the multi-functional module for the Daimler AG MDEG engines

2013

Hengst of North America, Inc. has been awarded the prestigious "Gold Supplier Status" by GM Customer Care and Aftersales.

2013

Establishment of the subsidiary  Hengst Automotive India in Bangalore (India).

2013

The Hengst group has been awarded with the award "GM Supplier of the Year 2012".

2013

The Hengst Filter Systems (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. as been awarded with the „Green Supplier“ Award from Shanghai GM (SGM).
